Monday Tutoring - Building on Skills

Summertime had not only been a time for camp fun at Little Lights but also a time of building onto academic skills students worked so hard to gain this past school year. In response to a desire that students would be ready for the new school year, Little Lights started a one-on-one summer tutoring program for a select group of students. The students chosen for this program range from grades 1-3, each student was selected because they were in danger of not moving on to the next grade level. Students and tutors came together Monday afternoons to read together, work on math skills and play academic games on computers. It has been exciting to see students not only be excited to read and work on math in the Summer but to see students improving and gaining academic skills with the help and encouragement from their tutors. One of our first grade students had been working all year on writing his numbers correctly, this summer he finally mastered them and we were able to celebrate with him. These students are excited and ready to begin school in the Fall!
