Highland Residential Mortgage’s main office is based out of Dallas, TX, but Rick started his own franchise in Chantilly, Virginia and is now regarded as one of the top mortgage companies in the greater DC area, specializing in real estate loans. He was named “one of the top 10% mortgage originators in America in 2012.”
We are enormously thankful for Rick’s partnership with Little Lights as a Silver Level Sponsor for the Little Lights Benefit 2013, and also for his sponsorship of our Hope for the City breakfasts earlier this year. Additionally, he generously helped stock our Little Lights Christmas store last December with an abundance of brand-new toys. Thanks in large part to Rick’s help, parents selected, wrapped, and took home more than 200 gifts to give to their children on Christmas morning.
Rick and Highlands Residential Mortgage have been an invaluable support to Little Lights and we’re grateful for their partnership.

A book called Faith Forward: A Dialogue on Children, Youth, and A New Kind of Christianity was recently released, and we’re excited to announce that it features a chapter jointly written by Steve and Mary Park.
Titled “Beauty in Brokenness: Our Family’s Story of Serving Children and Youth through United Compassionate Action,” the chapter tells the story behind Steve and Mary’s calling to live and serve in this community.
It also outlines the philosophy and theology undergirding the mission of Little Lights: forging relationships across racial, cultural, and socioeconomic lines, recognizing the complexity of poverty and the many issues surrounding it, being willing to commit to a community for the long haul, and being able to see the beauty of God at work in the midst of brokenness.
As Steve and Mary put it, “We believe that Christians are called to be the healing hands and feet of Jesus in our beautiful but broken world. But this work is not easy. Serving God and the young people that God so loves in a challenging community like Potomac Gardens requires eyes to see beyond problems and pain… Being able to see beauty in brokenness has been crucial …We suspect that one reason we’ve been able to sustain being in this type of ministry for so many years is that we see beauty when we walk into Potomac Gardens and greet residents and receive hugs from children in the community. We are more apt to sense God’s presence in Potomac Gardens than in a pew.”
Faith Forward collects twenty-one presentations from the “Children, Youth, and a New Kind of Christianity” conference held in Washington, DC in 2012, including Steve and Mary’s, and is a valuable resource for anyone who works with children or youth. Check out the book here.

Over the past few years it has been a privilege to have the partnership of the Gaskins Team, especially their participation in the Little Lights Benefit, both this year and last, as a Silver Level Sponsor.
Andy Biggers and Will Gaskins make up the Gaskins Team, one of the top real estate teams in the DC area. While based out of Falls Church, Virginia, the Gaskins Team works with buyers and sellers throughout the DC metro area. Popular areas include Arlington, Falls Church, Capitol Hill, McLean, Alexandria, Georgetown, Fairfax, Brookland, Bethesda, Reston, Oakton, Vienna, Mount Pleasant and Petworth – but its circle frequently stretches as far out as Gaithersburg or Gainesville.
Known for both its expertise and friendliness, the Gaskins Team has also been a faithful friend to Little Lights and we’re grateful for its participation in the Little Lights Benefit, both this year and last. Andy Biggers (pictured right) is a fixture in the Little Lights community; he has consistently been a generous supporter and for the past two years has served on the Benefit Host Committee.
Whether you might be looking for property, a home, a townhouse, or a condo, the Gaskins Team is eager to be of help – so be sure to give them a call next time you’re in need of real estate assistance!
