We saw the power of light displayed at this year’s Little Lights Benefit. More than 300 guests arrived at the legendary Howard Theatre on Saturday, October 13th to learn more about the holistic and life-changing programs Little Lights has offered the DC community for almost 23 years. We were delighted to have Eekemini Uwan, co-host of Truth’s Table podcast, join us as our emcee to lead us through a night filled with an inspiring performance from Little Lights Choir, a delicious dinner served by B.Lin Catering, dessert from District Doughnut, and a high-spirited live auction.
Our black-tie event of the year kicked off with a cocktail hour and live music provided by the MercyBand. As the program moved forward guests witnessed the premiere of our new video “Dedicated to my Dreams,” featuring Dominique, who grew up in our programs, graduated college and is now back working full-time with our students. Dominique spoke about his resilience while pursuing his academic dreams, but most importantly all the ways Little Lights contributed to his success despite his circumstances.
The Benefit also featured a Q+A segment with Deniesha, who has been in our programs for 5 years. She recently graduated from 8th grade where she received the principal’s award: an award for outstanding mathematics. Deniesha expressed her excitement for programs, how much Little Lights means to her personally, and she even taught the audience a couple of dance moves along the way!
At the end of the evening, our community of supporters displayed the power of light by helping us raise more than $180,000 – making this our most successful Benefit to date! That funding directly enables Little Lights’ growing and advancing work with under-resourced communities in Washington, DC. Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this Little Lights Benefit a memorable success.
We are sending a special thanks to all of our corporate sponsors!
Also, thanks to Mayline Yu Photography for capturing the night!
