ABOUT

Book Steve Today

Steve Park, Little Lights’ Founder & Executive Director, frequently speaks at churches, retreats, and conferences. Reach out through the form below to inquire about booking Steve for your event.

At the age of 7, Steve immigrated to the United States from South Korea. A devout atheist in high school and college, Steve converted to Christianity after coming to recognize the radical compassion of Jesus following a difficult experience taking drugs after college.

Looking to share the compassion he had experienced, Steve founded Little Lights Urban Ministries in 1995 after meeting underserved children and youth near his parents’ business in Northwest DC. Starting with no funds and no experience, he has now grown the organization to 13 full-time staff, roughly 40 part-time staff, and six locations.

Little Lights works to holistically create opportunity for children, youth, and families living in three DC public housing complexes — Potomac Gardens, Hopkins, and Benning Terrace — where the average annual income for families is $14,000. Steve also has a passion for anti-racism education and teaches the Race Literacy 101 class each year to help participants understand our country’s history of racial ideology and how anti-racism connects to faith.

He has two children, Dylan and Kayla, ages 18 and 20, and has been married to Mary Park, who serves alongside Steve as the Deputy Director of Little Lights, since 2001. Steve won the Gelman, Rosenberg, and Freedman EXCEL award in 2010 for Non-profit Executive Management and the John Thompson Legacy of a Dream Award from Georgetown University in 2018. In 2020, Steve and Mary were also awarded the Embrace Unity Award from the Council for Korean Americans. He currently serves on the board of Christian Community Development Association and is one of the founders of DC Unity and Justice Fellowship, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to racial unity and justice in the Body of Christ especially in the DC area.
