After months of planning, the Hilltop Center, our sixth and newest site is open!

Located just east of the Anacostia River, the Hilltop Center is one of six sites Little Lights has planted across Southeast DC to support and empower children and families living in public housing.

Earlier this month the Hilltop Center opened its doors welcoming 20 new students from Benning Terrace public housing.

Opening our new center and seeing the smiles and laughter of children enjoying the space and being nurtured by the staff and volunteers there is truly a joy and reason to celebrate,” said Steve, Executive Director and Founder.

Anthony Minter, the pastor of First Rock Baptist church and a close friend of Steve’s, first suggested the idea of Little Lights expanding to Benning Heights in 2016. It wasn’t until last fall, Steve and, his wife, Mary decided to take Pastor Minter up on his generous offer, and began plans to use the space for programming.

Thanks to Pastor Anthony Minter and First Rock Baptist Church Little Lights is able to hold Hilltop Center programming inside one of their church-owned properties at no cost.

Karmen Taylor, Program Director, at the Hilltop Center, is looking forward to growing with our new students and acclimating them to Little Lights’ proven programming, which will consist of Homework Club and Saturday Dip.

“I want these students to know that the Hilltop Center was made specifically for them, to have fun, to receive homework support, and to feel loved,” Karmen exclaimed.

A big thanks to our dedicated donors, volunteers, church partners, staff and First Rock Baptist Church who all contributed in turning the Hilltop Center from an idea into a reality.

Want to see the Hilltop Center? On Saturday May 20th, walk through the newly renovated space during the Hilltop Center Open House! All are welcome. For more details:
