Dear friends and partners,

Little Lights has been closely monitoring the current COVID-19 crisis and are following the lead of DCPS.  As you know, this is a very serious public health situation and one that could potentially disproportionately impact underserved families.

Today, DCPS made the decision to have spring break early starting next week from Tuesday, March 17th through Monday, March 23rd.  Then DCPS will do remote instruction for the following week.

We have made the decision to mirror the DCPS schedule and follow the spring break schedule and then next week make a decision about what programming may look like the following week.

DCPS plans on resuming a regular schedule April 1st and we are planning, for now, to follow suit.  We will continue to monitor the situation as things are so uncertain and fluid.

During this crisis, the safety of our students, staff, and volunteers will be our highest priority, however, we will also make every effort to meet the immediate needs of our families during this disruption. As many of our families have household incomes of less than $15,000/year, the need for food is something we will be monitoring with all of our families especially if the disruption is extended.

So far, no one directly connected to Little Lights has been diagnosed with COVID-19.  However, we are fully aware that testing has been slow and that there needs to be an abundance of caution.

Even before the school closure, we have been taking extra precautions for hand washing, site cleaning, and closely following other recommendations by health officials.

In times like this, it is comforting to know we have a caring community around us.  Let us pray for safety and health of every single one of us including our most vulnerable neighbors.  Thank you for friendship.
