Yun-ok Lee, wife of South Korean President Lee Myungbak, toured Little Lights Urban Ministries on June 15 as part of the first couples’ visit to Washington. The Christian nonprofit, founded by Korean-American Steven Park in 1995, provides spiritual, academic and social activities for more than 100 children living in the Potomac Gardens Public Housing project at 1212 I St. SE.

Mrs. Lee has worked with the South Korean embassy to provide support for Little Lights and its first facility at Potomac Gardens. “We are deeply honored to have the First Lady of South Korea visit our new facility and for her support,” said Steven Park, Little Lights executive director.

During her visit, Mrs. Lee was serenaded by the Little Lights Gospel Choir and played air hockey with 11-year-old James Guerrero, one of the students in the program. She also met with Ronada Hewitt and Dwaine Brown, two former Little Lights students who are now attending college.
